The Sagas of Mer

My name is William, ​I am currently working on writing a fantasy novel that takes inspiration from my background in historical studies. The world of this story will rely heavily on an immense lore background to cultivate authenticity and in-universe historicity. In order to collect and distribute the lore and background information of the world I created this website where I will be uploading all of my shorter stories and documents that elaborate on lore of the world in a blog format. I am doing this for two reasons: one, to cement the canon in something that feels more permanent than the various scattered notebooks and word documents they find themselves in, and two, to offer readers a chance to provide feedback and immerse themselves in the world of my story before the novel is finished (which will take some considerable time). Lore updates will come somewhat sporadically as notes are compiled into coherent thoughts and fleshed out in an engaging manner. 

Here we have a map of the land of Mer, a continent that is home to many different groups who, over the course of history, have shaped the landscape into what we see in the present day. It is inhabited by three main races of intelligent beings: humans, dwarves, and elves. While others exist, their influence has been insignificant compared to the exploits of these three races. Giants, fairies, gnomes, and other mystical creatures dwell in their shadows, choosing to withdraw from the political meddling of their humanoid companions in favor of connecting with the deep magic of the land. Through the sagas of this land, we will learn more about who these people are, their motivations, and the outcomes of their actions and how they affect the world as a whole. While much is known, even more is shrouded in mystery, and it is up to the reader to ascertain the truth of what is happening in this land.
